Cell Phone Ban In The Making

December 20, 2011

Bolton Nissan dealerTo everyone who hasn’t been informed, The National Transportation Safety Board is going to require all states ban the use of cell phones while driving. That’s correct, no texting, not even if the call is on speakerphone. Who’s “loling” now? Here at your local Bolton Nissan dealer, we think the ban of cell phones would be spectacular and save many lives.

The amount of people who use their cell phones while driving is outrageous. I can understand an emergency call, which as The NTSB says will be acceptable, but how would anyone know if the call is actually an emergency or not? This law will be a bit difficult to enforce especially when people will use the excuse that their phone call was an emergency. On the other hand, texting specifically should be banned while driving. Too many people have lost their lives over a few words; it’s a sad reality.

A better idea would be to allow a hands-free device or use speakerphone only, instead of having your cell phone attached to your head and being distracted. Some, not all, would feel slightly more comfortable if this was allowed. This way we could converse with people, especially if it’s important, and we wouldn’t have to rush home to make that phone call. If this law is passed, many drivers will have to adapt and will eventually become safer operators.
