In a recent national survey, it was revealed that high school math teachers rated white females math abilities lower than white male students. Even if both tests were comparable, teachers are still giving lower grades to white girls rather than anyone else. Math is already hard enough for teenagers. We all had that one subject in school where we dreaded going to, and for most, it was math. There seems to be a belief that white males just understand math more than white females. Maybe more females are enrolled into classes that are too hard for them? Or maybe white males take math classes that are too easy? There needs to be a clear definition of why this is happening.
Another factor you have to consider are male teachers. They could be more bias towards girls than a female teacher for unnecessary reasons. Maybe it’s sexism? Or even racism? Whatever the problem is, teachers should treat each student in a fair manner and respect their abilities.
